Other people took photos too

For anyone with photos of Percy, please let me know; I’d love to add them here.

Before I knew him, Percy lived his best puppy life in North Carolina. Jeannie VanRheen Oakes took all these photos, giving me a glimpse into his youngest days. Named Porkchop, he looked just like his mom, with the same white line down his face.

Sometimes I’d call him Porky or Porkchop, wondering if it would stir up any memories in his head.

Through a series of events, Porkchop ended up with Mark’s aunt: Pat Ransone. She took photos of him in the cone of shame and sent them to me, knowing I was considering a dog.

Herb Moore was Percy’s first dog walker. For years they’d go to Churchill Park together.

Percy rarely showed his safety blanket to anyone, but he did with Herb.

He’s an amazing dog photographer.

Justin dog-sat for Percy all the time. He told me never allowed Percy in bed… but these say otherwise.

Lisa dog-sat often (even though she was allergic – that’s dedication); during a stint of dog sitting in February, she brought him a toy llama.

It made Percy sad when she didn’t choose him as her Valentine.

He loved her anyway.

While I was on sabbatical volunteering with a dog rescue in Nepal, Daniela and Jonathan invited him into their place.

He didn’t skip a beat at making right at home.

Mark had the hilariously ambitious idea that the 32 hour round trip drive to North Carolina could be done over a three day weekend.

Three quarters of the way back at a rest stop just east of the Indiana / Ohio border, I took my first photo of Percy. The sun had set. The only light was a barely working street lamp. I only had an old iPhone 4 handy.

It’s low resolution. Percy has an ambivalent look on his face.

I look at it all the time.
